Description

Hello..... Here is a fine example of a KG-31 from 1935, 36,37.... I can't see the stamp inside but ,according to Gruhn Guitars , it dates to that time period. I have been playing some Robert Johnson Blues on it and it is a Dream. I have 2... so I am selling this one to anyone interested in that Sound. My old Friend and travelling companion, the Great Johnny Shines, turned me on to this. here is a little interview with Johnny talking about the old days with Robert.....interviewed by Jas Obrecht Living Blues... 1989..
"What were your favorite guitars back then?
Kalamazoo archtop ad, circa 1936.
Well, I had a little black Regal guitar, and then later on I had a Kalamazoo like Robert had. We both had it. The Kalamazoo was a Gibson with a flaw in it. The Kalamazoo had f-holes in it.
Did you want an archtop because it was louder?
Yeah. Had more body to it.
That’s him. That’s him. [Long pause.] Yes, it’s him.
Do you remember that guitar?
No, I don’t.
Looks like a Gibson or Kalamazoo.
No, I don’t remember. It might be the one that we bought in Steele, Missouri. We bought a flat-top in Steele, Missouri. This is not a archtop, but he really liked that archtop."
. the Neck is " Straight as an arrow "...action on the neck is low to medium.... frets look good.... bridge and nut are fine, one small crack on the back... a few scratches on the front.... binding in great shape and pickguard is solid. neck to body is solid...tuners work fine. really nice neck to play on....a small crack barely appears right below the bridge during wintertime which disappears in the summer. i think its humidity related. I added a strap button on the neck....Case is a Geib Economo series...I don't think it's original to the guitar , but has value on it's own. all the latches are there but the back ones have torn away from the main body of the case. Feel free to message me with any questions.....buy it now or send me an offer if you like. I might be a little flexible. there's not many of these that are Original and in Great playing condition , so don't miss out on that 30's Delta Sound. Thanks for looking ...
