Description
Old Kraftsman Acoustic guitar project. Very nice jumbo sized guitar is in need of a neck reset. The action is very high, can be played as is for slide & first couple positions, but to be a nice player the guitar will need a reset. I do not have an exact year for the guitar, but I am guessing early 60's. The guitar has 2 previous repairs. The bridge plate was chewed up by the ball ends of the strings, so the original plate was repaired and the plate was then reinforced with a thin rosewood cap (see last photo). The second was a partial re-fret,the first 3 frets are nickel, all others are brass, so it looks to have had a partial re-fret. I did not commission this work, but it all looks as if it were done by a very competent luthier. Frets are clean, well set and there is no mess or damage to the rosewood fretboard.
The tuning machines are not original to the guitar, but appear to be period correct. I am not sure if the bridge pins or saddle are original. The guitar has some dings, light scratches and dents, but no cracks, no open seams. At the bottom of the guitar there is some slight discoloration, right in the area of the end pin. Not very noticeable, but it looks like perhaps there was a sticker or something on the guitar in that area at some point (see photo). The bracing looks to be all original. The top is X braced.
Case info: Case appears to be original to the guitar, but I added the green lining. The guitar was rattling around in the hard plastic case when I got it, I added the felt to pad the case and protect the guitar. The latches all seem to work well, the handle is in good shape and I would say overall the case is in good shape and is functional.
