Description
the series 80 emu was a long distance express train designed by the japanese national railway in the early 1950s; the system had a a maximum operating speed of 100 kph and was constructed by the stalwarts of japanese rail manufacturing - hitachi, kawasaki, and nippon sharyo........deployment was widespread along the tokyo to kyoto mainline.........the unique livery garnered the nickname "shonan", for that portion of the mainline near shizuoka and for the color of mandarin oranges grown in that area which supposedly provided the inspiration.....this series design served until the early 1980s, although the arrival of the shinkansen for mainline service forced the series 80 onto secondary routes...........Micro Ace is one of the dominant triumvirate of n scale manufactures in Japan - Kato and Tomix both being better known outside of Japan....Micro Ace clearly markets the broadest line of locomotives among the 3 and arguably features the finest detail work on their products.
i acquired this set from a brick and mortar pawn shop specializing in hobby items........the emu is flawless and operates smoothly and beautifully.......the head lamps, tail lights, and destination board lights are vibrant........the only accessories - unopened - are an alternative coupler arrangement to the installed rapidos and a series of decals for the destination lights and windows.....instructions in japanese with pictures are present......this set is a wonderful addition to a layout featuring late steam and early electric locomotives.....
the paper sleeve to the book storage packaging slows slight abrasion.......
