The book is intended as a companion volume to John Blair's exhaustive "Illustrated Discography of Surf Music, 1961-1965" (also available on eBay).  Blair's co-author of the updated hot rod music discography is Australia's pre-eminent surf music discographer, Stephen McParland, who has written many books on the subject of surf music since the late 1970s.  McParland is considered Gary Usher's biographer, having written an incredibly detailed biography (at nearly 650 pages!!) of one of pop music's most talented producer, musicians, and vocalists.
