Description

a special gift from the mother-in-law to the bride during the wedding ceremony in Hindu Marwari and Jain communities. Traditionally woven in cotton with "zari" thread, very fine gold wire, forming a grid and embellished with various designs using the tie-and-dye technique. In this handmade sari there are a total of 588 squares! Nice rich red color, few sign of use, mainly near one border, see photos, general good condition. 1940's Gujarat, India.
